In a week when the ratings news has been pretty bleak for FOX, they’ve whipped up some glad tidings by announcing that X FACTOR is renewed for the 2012-13 television season. It’s the first renewal of the season for a new series, but as X Factor is a fall-only show (supplanted in January by the return of American Idol), it’s apples and oranges with the other new series.
Renewal was pretty much a no-brainer for FOX, as X Factor, while not the Idol-like blockbuster some were hoping for and even forecasting, has consistently won its nights, and has even been useful in filling in for baseball preemptions during FOX’s typically rocky fall.
