NBC’s preseason continues to play out well.
NBC: GO ON has yet to face any real competition, but it held well with a 3.3 last night, and the episode was better structured than last week’s, with one central Matthew Perry story rather than multiple fragments. THE NEW NORMAL, on the other hand, was preachy and unfunny (poking fun at sexualizing 9 year olds came queasily close to really sexualizing them), and its 2.2 airing against weak programming on the other networks is a bad sign. Sadly, an excellent PARENTHOOD slipped to 1.8, which was enough to win its hour last night, but bodes badly for weeks to come. The night was anchored by another strong number for THE VOICE, up 0.3 from last Tuesday.
FOX: The season finale of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE was down 0.4 from last year’s finale, which sounds worse when it’s expressed as “25%”. In any case, the 1.6 was no powerhouse.
ABC: A lousy 1.1 hour of sitcom reruns led into a “Best Shows on TV” episode of 20/20, which was 2 hours of a tepid 1.6.
CBS: Reruns of the NCIS shows at 1.6/1.5.
CW: Reruns at 0.3/0.2.
Tonight is another mix of preseason launches and late summer programming. CBS starts SURVIVOR: PHILIPPINES as the lead-in to the finale of BIG BROTHER, FOX has a new X FACTOR, NBC has a rerun Voice leading into reruns of SVU and REVOLUTION, and ABC is all repeats.
