Night 6 of the Summer OLYMPICS is typically down, but this year’s drop was more steep than most.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and Olympics comparisons follow the chart.
NBC: Without Tuesday’s marquee events, Wednesday’s RIO SUMMER OLYMPICS coverage followed the pattern by falling. But its 2.4 drop to 7.6 was worse than all recent Summer Olympics aside from 2008 (which dropped 3 points), and the resulting number pushed 2016 back below 2000, for the worst Night 6 in at least 20 years. The numbers should rebound tonight, with a recent range of 0.5-2.0 for the Night 7 recovery.
CBS: BIG BROTHER was steady at 1.8, and after a 0.6 CRIMINAL MINDS rerun, AMERICAN GOTHIC lost 0.1 to 0.4.
CW: PENN & TELLER: FOOL US and the new WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY held last week’s 0.4, with 0.3 for the WHOSE LINE rerun that followed.
ABC: Reruns at 0.5-0.6.
FOX: Reruns at 0.6.
The most notable non-Olympics TV event tonight will occur at 12:01AM on Netflix, which premieres the first 6 episodes of Baz Luhrman’s THE GET-DOWN, about the early days of hip-hop.
