With live coverage of football and President Obama’s address to the families of Newtown, last night’s ratings won’t really be clear until final numbers are released tomorrow. What follows is a very preliminary account.
CBS: The SURVIVOR finale had the advantage of a huge (8.5) lead-in from an afternoon NFL overrun, and it’s currently at 3.2, which would be up 0.3 from last Spring (although down a substantial 0.8 from last fall’s finale). 60 MINUTES is currently at a giant 5.0, thanks to football.
ABC: The BACHELORETTE WEDDING SPECIAL was a disaster, with a 0.9 that didn’t even hold the 1.2 lead-in it got from a WIPEOUT repeat.
FOX: The night’s original episodes of Family Guy and American Dad were pulled for repeats due to content concerns in the wake of the Newtown tragedy. Currently, THE CLEVELAND SHOW is at 1.4, THE SIMPSONS is at 1.9, and BOB’S BURGERS is at 1.2, all down from last week (hugely so in the case of Simpsons, which had the NFL overrun lead-in last week). The repeats both scored 1.5s.
NBC: SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL won the night, as usual.
NBC will stunt its new sitcom 1600 PENN tonight by running the pilot after the first part of THE VOICE‘s cycle finale. Whatever number that may give the comedy, two words to remember are: Animal Kingdom. The finale of TAKE IT ALL follows. CBS has a 1-hour HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, ABC continues its run of EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION, FOX airs holiday specials, and on CW, one of the network’s signature shows comes to an end, as GOSSIP GIRL files her last blog post. XOXO, everyone.

Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).

Even exhibition football is football. NBC: NFL PRESEASON FOOTBALL took the night with a 2.9, which is just a taste of what the numbers will be in a few weeks when the real thing returns. Even a MADDEN NFL pre-show came in 2d place in the 7PM hour, trailing only……
