WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD. Year to date, Warner Brothers remains on top with $804 million worldwide, while Disney has vaulted to a competitive second place with $677 million (because of the arrival of Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Sony and Universal remain in the next tier with about $530 million worldwide each. Fox and Paramount are very close behind (with about $450 million worldwide each). Lionsgate/Summit trails with about $300 million worldwide.

YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2014 is now running 7% ahead of last year but only even with the average for this point the past four years ($2.224 billion). Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed $5.8 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office.
A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year. (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)
