AFTERNOON UPDATE: All the ABC sitcoms (except MIXOLOGY, which needed it most) were adjusted up 0.1 in final numbers, as was SURVIVOR. There was no good news for AMERICAN IDOL or ARROW.
WEDNESDAY CABLE: The NBA PLAYOFFS on TNT were again dominant at 1.9/1.2. On History Channel, AMERICAN PICKERS and DOWN EAST DICKERING (History) were steady at 0.9/0.7. BRING IT (Lifetime) lost 0.1 to 0.7, whileTHE AMERICANS climbed 0.1 to 0.5.
Probably the last rerun-heavy night of the 2013-14 TV season.
FOX: At this point, even modest good news for AMERICAN IDOL has to come as a relief to FOX, and last night the show climbed 0.2 to 2.1–although that wasn’t even enough to win its timeslot.
ABC: A heavily-promoted episode of MODERN FAMILY shot in Australia earned the show an extra 0.1 from its most recent original episode, up to 3.4. With a new Modern Family as its lead-in, MIXOLOGY rose 0.3 from last week to 1.5, still less than half of Family‘s number. The 8PM hour was less pretty, as THE MIDDLE fell 0.2 to 1.8 and SUBURGATORY dropped 0.1 to 1.6. NASHVILLE ran a non-narrative music special featuring the stars for a 1.0.
CBS: Only SURVIVOR was new, and it slipped 0.1 to a season low 2.2, although it’s worth noting that the veteran series is holding remarkably well from last season, when the parallel episode was just 0.1 higher. The rest of the night was filled with reruns at twin 1.2s.
CW: Despite a much-hyped episode that featured the exit of a regular character, ARROW was only able to hold with last week’s series low 0.7. THE 100, though, gained 0.1 to 0.6, almost certainly ensuring that it’ll be back next season.
NBC: An all-rerun night, highlighted by 1.1 for the 9PM SVU.
The calendar may say April, but tonight marks the start of May sweeps, the final 4 weeks of the broadcast season. That makes it a busy night, with two debuts: BAD TEACHER in the 9:30PM slot on CBS, and BLACK BOX filling in for the curtailed part of Scandal‘s season at 10PM on ABC. Meanwhile, NBC has the season finale of PARKS & RECREATION–wiping its Thursday slate clean of its low-rated sitcoms for the rest of sweeps–and a SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE clip special at 9PM.
