The night’s newcomers showed few signs of life.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment) Thursday, the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: The network’s awful run (GOTHAM excepted) continued with the arrival of GRACEPOINT, with a 1.2 that was half a point below last fall’s premiere of the busted RAKE. The night started with BONES at 1.5, down 0.1 from last week’s season premiere.
NBC: BAD JUDGE and A TO Z aren’t going to turn around NBC’s sitcom fortunes, as they debuted at 1.3/1.2, already ready for a potential death watch. The rest of the night was stable, as THE BIGGEST LOSER stayed at last week’s series low 1.3, and PARENTHOOD slipped 0.1, also to 1.3.
CW: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES returned at 0.9, which was 0.3 below last fall’s premiere. REIGN was at 0.4, half its series premiere last year, but around where the show had left off in the spring.
ABC: Shondaland continues to dominate the non-football night, but the line-up was down significantly from last week: GREY’S ANATOMY by 0.5 to 2.6, SCANDAL by 0.6 to 3.3, and HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER by 0.7 to 3.2. ABC has been regularly getting gifts from the afternoon adjustments, though, so those numbers could shift.
CBS: THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL has a preliminary 4.4, just a tick below last week’s early number.
LAST MAN STANDING has its season premiere tonight, and otherwise the network Friday line-ups are steady.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings for Thursday, the same night last year and same night last week.
