Shondaland richly earned its latest back-order last night.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment) Thursday, the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: Unfortunately for the network, Viola Davis’s deal only allows for a maximum 15 episodes per season of HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER. That maximum was ordered yesterday, and with good reason, since MURDER, despite airing at 10PM, outrated its lead-in SCANDAL. Week to week, MURDER was down 0.2 to 3.1, while SCANDAL dropped 0.4 to 3.0 (the latter was down 0.1 from the parallel night last season when it aired at 10PM). The night began with GREY’S ANATOMY, down 0.3 to 2.4.
NBC: BAD JUDGE held at 1.3, but A TO Z lost 0.2 to 1.0 in their second airings. THE BIGGEST LOSER started the night down 0.1 to 1.2, while PARENTHOOD was steady at 1.3.
FOX: The second episode of GRACEPOINT dropped 0.3 to a terrible 0.9. BONES remained at 1.5.
CW: Although 0.7 is still a very solid number at CW, the glory days of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES seem to be behind it, as it fell 0.2 from last week and down 0.3 from the parallel week last season. REIGN retained last week’s 0.4.
CBS: The preliminary number for THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL was 3.8, down 0.6 from last week’s early rating.
One of the stragglers among network debuts premieres tonight, with CRISTELA arriving in ABC’s 8:30PM slot.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings for Thursday, the same night last year and same night last week.
