NASHVILLE scored a rare win.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: The midseason finale of NASHVILLE, a series given up for dead in each of its first two seasons, won its timeslot last night against original competition from CBS and NBC. The margin of victory was slim (at 1.5, it was up 0.2 from last week), and it could fall behind one or the other when final numbers are released this afternoon, but it’s still a fairly sweet result. Earlier in the evening, THE MIDDLE zoomed 0.6 to tie its season high 2.2, THE GOLDBERGS was similarly up half a point to 2.2, MODERN FAMILY gained 0.3 to 3.1, and BLACK-ISH rose 0.2 to 2.3.
CW: The ARROW midseason finale only held onto a tinge of last week’s THE FLASH crossover glow, dropping 0.4 to 1.0. THE 100’s midseason finale was steady at 0.6.
CBS: SURVIVOR gained 0.3 to 2.4, but CRIMINAL MINDS and STALKER each lost 0.1, down to 2.1 and 1.4 respectively.
NBC: THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA was preempted last week, and returned down 0.2 to 1.2. SVU fell 0.4 to 1.4, and CHICAGO PD lost 0.2, also to 1.4.
FOX: 2 hours of HELL’S KITCHEN were at 1.2, stable with last week.
FOX airs what will almost certainly be the series finale of GRACEPOINT tonight, and CW has midseason finales of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and REIGN. Most of the networks feature new programming, except for reruns of HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER on ABC and NBC’s BLAKE SHELTON’S NOT SO FAMILY CHRISTMAS.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
