With one notable exception, midseason continued to look fairly positive for the networks.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: NBC counterprogrammed the season premiere of THE BACHELOR (last year it didn’t even try, airing BLACKLIST reruns that night), and it had an effect: BACHELOR lost half a point with a 2.2 start, its lowest ever. (Note: this year’s premiere was 3 hours long, compared to 2 hours in the past.)
FOX: GOTHAM returned from its hiatus up 0.2 from its fall finale to a solid 2.5, making it the night’s highest rated show. SLEEPY HOLLOW gained 0.1 to 1.6.
NBC: As noted, the network programmed the night aggressively with a special edition of CELEBRITY APPRENTICE, down just 0.2 from Sunday to 2.1. However, STATE OF AFFAIRS’s coffin went a bit deeper into the ground as it was unable to hold even half its lead-in, tying its low 1.0.
CBS: Every show on the network’s line-up gained from its last 2014 episode. 2 BROKE GIRLS was up 0.3 to 2.4, MIKE & MOLLY grew by 0.4 to 2.2, SCORPION rose 0.4 to 2.4, and NCIS: LA increased 0.3 to 1.9.
CW: The only network still on its holiday break ran a pair of 0.3 reruns.
ABC will hope to go 2-for-2 on its hiatus shows with tonight’s premiere of AGENT CARTER, which will face fresh competition except from CW and in NBC’s 8PM hour (which will set up next week’s return of PARKS & RECREATION by airing a pair of reruns).
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year.
