SHOWBUZZDAILY SUNDAY NETWORK SCORECARD – 1.11.2015

The Golden Globes were a tad less golden this year.

DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).

Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.

NBC:  Perhaps due to a less than star-studded list of nominees, the preliminary number for the GOLDEN GLOBES was 5.0, down 0.4 from last year.  (Because the show is live nationwide, the number will be adjusted in final ratings.  Last year’s adjusted number was 6.5.)  The night began with 2.2 for the GOLDEN GLOBES ARRIVALS SPECIAL.

CBS:  The network had the gigantic final hour of the AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF to start off the night, an 11.4 period (subject to adjustment) that propelled 60 MINUTES all the way from last week’s 0.8 to 3.6.  That dissipated by 9PM, when MADAM SECRETARY was up a relatively puny 0.3 to 1.7, and THE GOOD WIFE was merely steady at 1.3.  (A rerun GOOD WIFE ran only in the 10PM west coast time zone slot.)

ABC:  Facing direct competition for its audience from the GOLDEN GLOBES, GALAVANT went sharply off-key, down 0.7 from its debut to 1.3.  It was followed by deadly 0.8s for REVENGE and RESURRECTION, down respectively 0.2 and 0.1.

FOX:  There’s little point in comparing this week’s comedies to last week’s numbers, which were bloated by the NFC Wild Card Game.  Last night, THE SIMPSONS was at 2.0, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE at 1.5, FAMILY GUY at 2.0 and BOB’S BURGERS at 1.6.

Less than 2 weeks ago, ESPN set all-time cable viewing records with the first-ever COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SEMI-FINALS.  Tonight is the first-ever COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and the only question is how much bigger it will get.  CBS and FOX want no part of it, airing reruns aside from a new MIKE & MOLLY on CBS, while ABC and NBC will stay all-new.  Cable has the 2-hour season finale of MAJOR CRIMES on TNT, and the series premiere of EYE CANDY on MTV.

COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
