AMERICAN CRIME wasn’t quite up to Shondaland standards.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: AMERICAN CRIME launched at 2.0, easily enough to win its timeslot, but holding on to just two-thirds of its SCANDAL lead-in and very far from the 3.8 premiere of HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER. CRIME also had some audience erosion through the hour, starting at 2.2 and ending at 1.9. A success, but a mild disappointment given the giant marketing campaign ABC had given the show. SCANDAL itself was down 0.3 from 2 weeks ago to 3.0, and GREY’S ANATOMY, with a much-hyped surgery episode, was up 0.2 to 2.4.
CBS: THE BIG BANG THEORY gained 0.2 to 4.7, and not coincidentally, THE ODD COUPLE was also up 0.2 to 3.0. After 2.4 for a BIG BANG rerun (up 0.2 from last week’s), MOM ticked up 0.1 to 2.1. ELEMENTARY rounded out the night by falling 0.2 to 1.3.
NBC: The line-up seems to have more or less found its level. THE SLAP gained 0.1 to 0.8, THE BLACKLIST fell 0.2 to 1.7 (tying its recent series low), and ALLEGIANCE stayed at 0.8.
FOX: AMERICAN IDOL slipped 0.1 to 2.1, and BACKSTROM gained 0.1 to 1.0.
CW: Reruns at 0.2/0.2.
ABC premieres its unscripted IN AN INSTANT tonight, and NBC has a 2-hour DATELINE after a rerun SVU.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
