Even by the subdued standards of Friday network TV, this was a dull night.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: SHARK TANK was down 0.3 from its last new episode to 1.5, although that still gave 20/20 a better lead-in than last week’s rerun, pushing the newsmagazine up 0.6 to 1.4. The night started with LAST MAN STANDING and CRISTELA holding at their respective 1.2/1.0.
CBS: Downward for the night’s entire line-up: by 0.2 for THE AMAZING RACE to 1.1, and by 0.1 for HAWAII 5-0 and BLUE BLOODS, to 1.1/1.2.
NBC: GRIMM managed an 0.1 hike from last week’s new low to 1.1, but DATELINE fell 0.2 to 1.1.
FOX: A run of the movie DATE NIGHT was at 0.6.
CW: Reruns, with two half-hours of WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY at 0.5, and JANE THE VIRGIN at 0.3.
NBC has boxing in primetime tonight, and FOX has NASCAR. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE is hosted by star of the moment Taraji P. Henson, with musical guests Mumford & Sons. On Sunday, it will be interesting to see how AD: THE BIBLE CONTINUES fares without a conjunction with Easter Sunday and how that affects the already-dim AMERICAN ODYSSEY, but the unquestioned event of the night is on HBO, where GAME OF THRONES returns, joined by VEEP and SILICON VALLEY. For reasons best known to itself, Showtime is counterprogramming with the final season premiere of NURSE JACKIE.
