There was little to be thrilled about in last night’s blizzard of season finales.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: GREY’S ANATOMY finished its season at 2.2, up 0.1 from last week but down 0.4 from the 2014 finale, which aired at 9PM. SCANDAL’s finale was at 2.3, up 0.1 from last week. It was down a tremendous 1.1 from last season’s finale, but that’s not exactly apples-to-apples because last season ended in April, due to the shortened run occasioned by Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. The season finale of AMERICAN CRIME held at 1.0.
NBC: The good news was that THE BLACKLIST’s season finale was up 0.1 from last week to 1.5. The bad was that compared to last year’s finale (which aired on a Monday with THE VOICE as lead-in), it was down 1.1. The night started with a 0.8 SVU rerun, and ended with DATELINE, up 0.2 to 1.0.
CW: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES season finale was up 0.1 from last week to 0.7, which put it down 0.1 from last season’s finale. REIGN’s season finale was at 0.4, up 0.1 from last week and steady with last season.
CBS: After a 2.0 BIG BANG THEORY rerun, the season finale of THE ODD COUPLE held last week’s 1.8, not bad considering that last week’s BIG BANG finale lead-in was 3.7. Another hour of BIG BANG THEORY reruns followed at 1.9/1.8, and then the ELEMENTARY season finale was up 0.1 from last week to 1.2, which was down 0.2 from last year’s finale.
FOX: The network can’t have been expecting much from WAYWARD PINES, plucked from its shelf a year after being announced and thrown against major season finales–and that’s just what it got, a tepid 1.0 rating. Its lead-in BONES was also at 1.0, down 0.1 from last week.
Tonight’s season finales are GRIMM, THE AMAZING RACE and SHARK TANK. In addition, CBS airs ACM PRESENTS: SUPERSTAR DUETS, while FOX began its summer Fridays early, and runs another theatrical movie tonight, this time SCREAM 2.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
