Even the night’s leader lacked the big part of its bang.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
CBS: THE BIG BANG THEORY’s season finale was the highest-rated show of the night by a factor of more than 50%. Nevertheless, its 3.5 rating was up just 0.1 from last week, and down a sharp 1.4 from last year’s season finale (which aired in mid-May). THE ODD COUPLE aired 2 episodes, scoring a 1.8 that was down 0.2 from last week (its lowest rating with a new BIG BANG as lead-in), and then a 1.5 that set a new series low. It was followed by a 1.4 BIG BANG rerun, and then ELEMENTARY lost 0.1 to 1.1.
NBC: After a 0.6 SVU rerun, THE BLACKLIST gained 0.2 to 1.4, and DATELINE was down 0.1 to 0.8.
ABC: GREY’S ANATOMY lost its McDreamy bump, down 0.4 to 2.2. SCANDAL had the same rating, down 0.1 from its last episode 2 weeks ago. The (somewhat surprisingly just renewed) AMERICAN CRIME rose 0.1 to 1.0.
FOX: 2 hours of BONES were at 1.1/1.1, up 0.1 from last week’s single episode.
CW: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES went up a notch to 0.6, and REIGN remained at 0.3.
Tonight’s season finale is a 2-hour HAWAII 5-0 on CBS, and the other networks are all new apart from FOX, which airs a run of the movie SCREAM.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
