EMPIRE ended 2015 strongly.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: After last week’s fluky pre-holiday 3.2, EMPIRE bounced all the way back to the 4.4 it scored 2 weeks ago. ROSEWOOD couldn’t quite say the same, up 0.2 from last week to 1.4, but still 0.1 below 2 weeks ago.
NBC: At 1.5, the network’s annual CHRISTMAS IN ROCKEFELLER CENTER special was down 0.4 from last year’s edition. It was followed by a run of the original HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS at 1.5, and a 1.4 SNL holiday clip show.
CW: ARROW got a big boost from the back half of its crossover with THE FLASH, up 0.2 from 2 weeks ago to a season high 1.3. SUPERNATURAL benefited too, up 0.2 to 0.9.
ABC: The network aired reruns last Wednesday, so all comparisons are to 2 weeks ago. THE MIDDLE stayed at 2.1, but THE GOLDBERGS fell 0.2 to 2.0. Things were less rosy in the 9PM hour, where season lows were the order of the day, as MODERN FAMILY fell 0.4 to 2.4 and BLACK-ISH was down 0.2 to 1.7. NASHVILLE dropped 0.1 to 0.9.
CBS: SURVIVOR’s 2.1 was up 0.3 from last week’s holiday 2-hour episode, but steady with 2 weeks ago. CRIMINAL MINDS held its 1.5 from 2 weeks ago. CODE BLACK, probably due in part to the absence of CHICAGO PD on NBC, jumped 0.3 from 2 weeks ago to 1.5, suggesting that the show could get some traction in a different timeslot.
Tonight’s major event is NBC’s THE WIZ LIVE. It won’t have an easy night, though, with competition from a return of THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL to CBS and CMA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS at ABC. (The latter’s last installment ran on a Monday and rated at 1.6.)
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
