INTERNATIONAL BOX OFFICE through October 7

Taken 2 enters the worldwide chart at #10 among recent movies, with a projected $138 domestic total when all is said and done and an overseas to date total of $67 million already.  An eventual overseas total of $200 million is possible, putting the worldwide target at $338 million.  This compares to a worldwide total of $226.8 million for Taken in January 2009 (with a slightly higher $145.0 million domestic but a much lower $81.8 million overseas).

The other big gainers this week included Madagascar 3 (up $28 million overseas to $451 million overseas to date — but still far behind Ice Age: Continental Drift’s $700 million overseas total so far).  Also, Resident Evil: Retribution gained $23 million this week (to $160 million overseas to date) and Hotel Transylvania (up $21 million this week to $29 million overseas so far) had significant gains internationally the past week.
