THE SKED’S NIELSENWAR – Week 3

Posted October 15, 2012 by Mitch Salem

Another week’s worth of ratings are in, and once again, we ask:  what do we know now that we didn’t know a week ago? NEXT CALLER MUST HAVE BEEN A REALLY, REALLY BAD SHOW.  Last week NBC stopped production on Next Caller, a single-camera sitcom slated for midseason that starred Dane Cook as a […]

SBD AWARDSWATCH: “Argo” Springs a Small Leak

Posted October 15, 2012 by Mitch Salem

Mitch Metcalf will have more to say about this weekend’s actual boxoffice numbers versus Sunday’s studio estimates later today, but one point is worth noting for its Oscar implications.  It was important to Warner Bros that ARGO, the studio’s big awards season hope and the fruit of its golden-boy director Ben Affleck (and also […]

THE SKED: “Walking Dead” Chomps On the Ratings

Posted October 15, 2012 by Mitch Salem

In a time of steadily declining ratings for network television  THE WALKING DEAD is proof that there’s still a staggeringly large audience available for scripted drama that viewers want to see.  Last night’s Season 3 premiere broke all the show’s existing records to become its highest-rated episode yet.  The 9PM telecast will have about […]

THE SKED’S SUNDAY NETWORK SCORECARD – 10/14/12

Posted October 15, 2012 by Mitch Salem

Another new show could be headed for the exits. ABC:  666 PARK AVENUE continued to fall, down another 0.2 to 1.5, and only a deal with the devil is likely to save it.  Worse for ABC, though, might have been the 3.0 for ONCE UPON A TIME, down 0.4 from last week, and looking like […]

WEEKEND STUDIO ESTIMATES October 12-14

Posted October 14, 2012 by Mitch Metcalf

The weekend still looks like a very good $123 million for the top 12 films, a little better than it looked yesterday.  Argo and Sinister flipped places in the weekend rankings.  Argo opened with $5.93 million Friday and jumped to $8.75 million Saturday.  A conservative estimate of $5.4 million today would put the 1979 Iranian Hostage rescue drama over $20 […]

THE SKED’S FRIDAY NETWORK SCORECARD – 10/12/12

Posted October 14, 2012 by Mitch Salem

No one at CBS misses MADE IN JERSEY. CBS:  Without Jersey breaking up the night, both CSI NY and BLUE BLOODS were up by 0.2 to 1.4, giving the latter a tie for the 10PM lead.  Even the NCIS rerun at 8PM managed a 1.2, higher than new episodes of Jersey had been doing. NBC:  Perhaps dented a bit by the stronger CBS competition, GRIMM was […]
