On the heels of last night’s jaw-dropping episode of HOMELAND, which basically played 52 pick-up with the show’s very premise, Showtime has issued an early Season 3 renewal for what is now its flagship series. Homeland has been nothing but good for Showtime, winning the network its first major Emmys for Best Drama, Actor and Actress, and with ratings that, while not Walking Dead or True Blood insane (and not yet matching Dexter‘s, closer to home), have been solid and consistent, with last night’s episode 4 reportedly becoming (just by a smidge) its highest-rated episode yet.
Nor is there any reason to think this is going to change. Danes might as well build a trophy room for the additional awards she already deserves for her work in the first few hours of this season (and TV Academy–this time, give one to Mandy Patinkin, too), while the show’s willingness–indeed, its insistence–on hairpin, shocking plot turns seems certain to keep things fresh for a long while to come.
