BROADCAST FINALS

ABC:  The network could feel good about the fact that THE OSCARS were up 1.64 (77%) to 3.76 in the 18-49 demo and up 6.2M (60%) in total viewers compared to 2021.  However, in comparison to 2020, the demo and total viewers were both down 29%, and this year’s telecast was the 2nd-lowest rated ever.  (For those interested in quarter-hour numbers given the events of the night, there was no particular bump at the time of The Slap–which makes sense, since no one knew it was going to happen–and there was a small but noticeable increase for Will Smith’s Best Actor acceptance speech later, at a time when due to the late hour, the show normally goes down.)  The night started with LIVE FROM THE RED CARPET at 0.51/0.92/1.52, compared to 0.41/0.58/0.74 in 2021 and 1.1/1.6/2.2 in 2020. 

CBS:  The other networks used to program around the Oscars, but no longer.  Although CBS peaked in the afternoon with NCAA TOURNAMENT games at 2.19/3.29, and aired reruns at 0.97/0.59 from 7-9PM, after that a new NCIS: LA ticked down to 0.52, and SWAT was down 0.03 to 0.46.

NBC:  Following a rerun AMERICAN SONG CONTEST at 0.17, THE WEAKEST LINK fell a tenth to 0.17, and TRANSPLANT gained 0.02 to 0.15.

FOX:  After a rerun at 0.24, THE SIMPSONS rose 0.07 to 0.36, GREAT NORTH ticked up to 0.27, BOB’S BURGERS slipped 0.02 to 0.33, and FAMILY GUY was up 0.04 to 0.37.

CW:  RIVERDALE ticked up to 0.06, and (cut off by the chart) MARCH was steady at 0.02/88K.

CABLE HIGHLIGHTS:  AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD dropped 0.05 to 0.40, with TALKING DEAD down 0.03 to 0.15.  Hallmark’s WHEN CALLS THE HEART ticked up to 0.14.  On Starz, POWER BOOK IV: FORCE dipped 0.02 to 0.10, OUTLANDER shed 0.02 to 0.04, and SHINING VALE was steady at 0.03.  On HBO, WINNING TIME gained 0.02 to 0.07, LAST WEEK TONIGHT fell 0.08 to 0.07, and GAME THEORY held at 0.01/88K.  On Showtime, BILLIONS ticked down to 0.04, THE CIRCUS fell 0.02 to 0.01/106K, and SUPER PUMPED was steady at 0.01/103K.  BBCAmerica’s KILLING EVE fell 0.03 to 0.02/194K. 

ESPN’s FORMULA 1 race was at 0.50,  and the network’s WOMENS NCAA TOURNAMENT games were at 0.28/0.22.  On TLC, 90 DAY FIANCE ticked down to 0.47 (after-show down 0.02 to 0.14), and UNEXPECTED was down 0.02 to 0.17.  Fox Sports 1’s WORLD CUP QUALIFIER match was at 0.41.  E!’s Academy Awards RED CARPET coverage was at 0.24/0.15.  On Food Network, TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS lost 0.02 to 0.23, and ALEX VS AMERICA was down 0.02 to 0.10.  Discovery’s NAKED & AFRAID was at 0.22 compared to last week’s 0.20/0.19.  On ID, EVIL LIVES HERE climbed 0.08 to 0.20, and ON THE CASE was up 0.04 to 0.15.  HGTV’s HOME TOWN was at 0.19.  Paramount’s BAR RESCUE ticked down to 0.14.  On History, THE FOOD THAT BUILT AMERICA edged up 0.02 to 0.12, and ADAM EATS THE 80S was steady at 0.08.  Bravo’s KANDI & THE GANG tumbled 0.06 to 0.12.
