The ratings below are household ratings from the 56 television markets with local Nielsen meters for Saturday July 6 and Sunday July 7, 2013. (The 56 markets out of 210 total cover about 70% of the US television population.)

NASCAR returned to the top of the sports heap this weekend, up 18% over the same race last year.

NASCAR — Daytona 400

TNT Sat 7:30 pm 3.3 rating (+18% from 2.8 rating last year)

After an atypically strong week last week, Major League Baseball fell back to a 2.1 rating this week, down 30% from the same week last year (typical of this year’s performance).

MLB — Regular Season Week #14

FOX Sat 7:15 pm ATL-PHI LAD-SF CHW-TB NYM-MIL HOU-TEX 2.1 rating (-30% from 3.0 rating last year, a 3-game regional at 7:15 pm)

  • In the top 10 markets, five markets had teams involved in FOX’s five selected games and delivered solid to excellent ratings: Dallas (6.8 rating / 14 share), Atlanta (6.7 /13), Philadelphia (4.3 / 9), San Francisco (3.1 / 8) and Los Angeles (3.0 / 7)
  • Three of the top 10 markets had teams involved but basically checked out: Houston (1.8 / 4), New York (1.6 / 3) and Chicago (1.6 /4)
  • The other two large markets had no reason to watch: Boston (0.4 / 1) and Washington DC (0.7 / 2).  The majority of markets turn in ratings like these.
  • Other good ratings for FOX baseball coverage Saturday were found in Tampa Bay (market # 14) 5.7 rating / 11 share and Milwaukee (market #26) 5.5 / 13.
  • Nationally, FOX debuted the All Star Game Selection Show at 6:30 pm before the games: averaging an underwhelming 0.94 rating int he 56 markets.

Wimbledon ended Saturday morning with the Women’s Final and Sunday morning with the Men’s Final, down almost 40% from last year.

Tennis — Wimbledon

ESPN Sat 9:00 am-3:00 pm Women’s Final 1.1 rating (-39% from 1.8 rating last year)

ESPN Sun 9:00 am-3:00 pm Men’s Final 2.0 rating (-35% from 3.1 rating last year)

COMBINED WEEKEND COVERAGE 1.55 rating (-37% from 2.45 rating last year)

A horrible PGA rating this weekend, especially the final round on Sunday which had absolutely no lift from Saturday’s third round (extremely rare).  The weekend coverage of the Greenbrier Classic was down 31% from last year, with Sunday down fully 43%.

PGA– Greenbrier Classic

CBS Sat 3:00-6:00 pm Third Round 1.2 rating (-14% from 1.4 rating last year)

CBS Sun 3:00-6:00 pm Final Round 1.2 rating (-43% from 2.1 rating last year from 3:00-7:00 pm)

COMBINED WEEKEND COVERAGE 1.2 rating (-31% from 1.75 rating last year)
