THE SKED 2013 UPFRONTS: CBS Featurette – “Mom”

No name has more cachet at CBS than Chuck Lorre’s.  He’s given the network The Big Bang Theory, 2 1/2 Men and Mike & Molly, and hopes are high that his MOM, taking over the Monday 9:30PM timeslot this fall, can join those at the top of the ratings heap.  The network’s behind-the-scenes featurette, naturally, paints the show in the best possible light.

Mom looks like the kind of down-the-middle comedy that’s bread and butter for CBS.  It’s not necessarily the kind that all of us adore, but there’s no denying its success.  This one has the advantage of a very strong cast, not just Anna Faris in the lead, but a supporting cast that includes Allison Janney as her mother, Nathan Corddry as her (married, but to a bitch) love interest and French Stewart as a co-worker.  There’s no reason to think it won’t work for fans of its lead-in 2 Broke Girls, and the only real question is whether it can break out to become the next generation of CBS anchor comedy once How I Met Your Mother and, eventually, 2 1/2 Men are done.  Based on the fragments of footage here, the answer is “maybe.”
