THE SKED 2013 UPFRONTS: FOX Trailer – “Sleepy Hollow”

We’re continuing our look through FOX’s fall trailers with SLEEPY HOLLOW, which will hold the Monday 9PM slot until The Following takes it back at midseason.  It comes from genre specialists Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, and here’s the promo:

Sleepy Hollow has a bit of a second-hand feel, as though tropes from a bunch of recent movies and TV shows (National Treasure, Arrow, Beauty & the Beast, X Files) were thrown together, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.  The trailer indicates a fair amount of sly fish-out-of-water humor thanks to Ichabod Crane’s return to life after 250 years, which could make it a good companion for Bones in its opening weeks, and the pilot looks like it has plenty of action.  There are so many of these genre shows on the air now that the question for any new one is whether it can stand out and manage the right blend of complex plot with engaging characters, and that’s impossible to tell from 4 minutes of clips.  But so far it’s not unpromising, and it may help the show that it seems to be set for just a limited run before The Following returns, which should give the plotting a tighter focus.
