The networks are facing a 2019 that looks a lot like 2018, ushering in the new year with lower ratings.

DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary live+same day key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).

Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.

ABC:  Although DICK CLARK’S NEW YEAR’S ROCKIN EVE was once again dominant, its preliminary 2.2/3.5 (the network issues ratings in segments for the show) was far below last year’s early 3.5/5.0, which adjusted in finals per the chart below.  However, this year’s numbers were very close to New Year’s Eve 2016 (which fell on a Saturday).

FOX:  FOX’S NEW YEAR’S EVE was at 0.9, half of 2017’s early and final number.

NBC:  The network returned to original New Year’s Eve programming with A TOAST TO 2018 at 0.9, and NBC’S NEW YEAR’S EVE at 1.3.

CBS:  Reruns at 0.4-0.5.

CW:  Reruns at 0.1/0.2.

FOX is jumping into 2019 tonight with new episodes of LETHAL WEAPON and THE GIFTED.  The other networks continue to air reruns.

COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 live+same day ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.

CABLE RATINGS: Come back WEDNESDAY afternoon for detailed demographic ratings for top cable and broadcast programs from this day.
