SUPERGIRL hit the skies running.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
CBS: The big night was, well, supercharged by a BIG BANG THEORY that scored that show’s highest rating since its fall premiere, up 0.3 from last week to 4.2. That created a perfect runway for the debut of SUPERGIRL, which currently has the highest rated premiere of any new series this season at 3.2 (just edging out BLINDSPOT’s 3.1). The particularly good news for CBS was that SUPERGIRL actually gained audience in its 2d half-hour, rising from 3.1 to 3.2, suggesting a lot of satisfied viewers. However, there were some numbers indicating that the show is affected by the network that airs it: while THE FLASH has roughly similar numbers in its 18-34 and 25-54 ratings (1.2 and 1.4 last week) and is weakest among the 50+ demo, SUPERGIRL became bigger as its audience aged, with more than double its 18-34 audience among 25-54s, and with more Men 50+ watching than Women 18-49. Those demos may figure into the rates advertisers will pay for the show compared to other superhero series. (GOTHAM, as expected, skewed more male, but it too is younger than SUPERGIRL.) The night ended with a 90-minute SCORPION that was up 0.1 from last week to 1.9.
NBC: The hubbub at CBS didn’t hurt THE VOICE, up 0.1 from last week to 3.1. BLINDSPOT was also up 0.1 to 2.2. (NBC fast nationals may be inflated by a pre-emption in Baltimore on WBAL for NFL MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.)
FOX: GOTHAM also wasn’t damaged by its new superhero company, and instead rose 0.2 to 1.5. MINORITY REPORT stayed at 0.6.
ABC: DANCING WITH THE STARS held at 1.9, with a CASTLE rerun at 0.9. (ABC fast nationals disrupted slightly by a MNF pre-emption in Phoenix, which pushed DANCING WITH THE STARS to 12 midnight MT on KNXV.)
CW: CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND may not be long for CW, down 0.1 to 0.2, and JANE THE VIRGIN also slipped 0.1 to 0.3.
The WORLD SERIES arrives on FOX tonight, and will hope to beat last year’s all-time low Game 1 preliminary rating of 2.9. ABC launches WICKED CITY in the 10PM slot.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
