The SUPERGIRL experiment is officially less than a roaring success.
NOTE: Minimal impact on the Monday fast nationals by local broadcast coverage of NFL MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL (aired nationally on ESPN). In Chicago the game was broadcast on an independent station. CBS numbers are only slightly distorted by San Diego where SUPERGIRL aired at 9pm and SCORPION at 10 pm after the post-game show.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
CBS: SUPERGIRL fell another half-point to 1.7. Objectively, that’s still a decent number, the highest rated superhero show on the air by a couple of tenths. But apart from the fact that the show may not be done dropping, the numbers are worse than they look: SUPERGIRL continues to skew very old for its genre, outrated by GOTHAM in 18-34s, and tripling that show’s rating in Men 50+. CBS didn’t get into the superhero game for ratings below last year’s 2 BROKE GIRLS numbers. The rest of the night was more stable, as SCORPION and NCIS: LA were each down a tenth, respectively to 1.8 and 1.2.
NBC: THE VOICE lost 0.1 to 3.2, while BLINDSPOT, already renewed for next season because NBC felt the need to Make A Statement, was steady at 2.2.
ABC: DANCING WITH THE STARS was up 0.1 to 2.0, but CASTLE may be nearing the end of its road, down 0.1 to a 1.0 that was off an ugly 0.6 from where it was at this time last season despite a stable lead-in.
FOX: GOTHAM slipped 0.1 to 1.5, and a BONES rerun aired at 9PM at 0.5.
CW: CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND and JANE THE VIRGIN were both steady at their respective 0.3/0.4.
Tonight USA launches sitcom DONNY behind new episodes of CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST. It’s FOX Business Network’s turn for a REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE, which should boost its usual numbers exponentially.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
