NETWORK UPDATE: 2 BROKE GIRLS and DANCING WITH THE STARS got back a bit of what they’d lost to 24, each up 0.1 from this morning. MIKE & MOLLY, though, fell an additional 0.1. The 10PM NCIS LA rerun was also down 0.1.
MONDAY CABLE: The season premiere of LOUIE (FX), at 0.5 for both its half-hours, was above last season’s average, but below its premiere (which was artificially boosted by airing after the premiere of ANGER MANAGEMENT, a big deal at the time). TNT’s NBA PLAYOFF games won the night in cable at 2.3/1.5 (the higher-rated was the Clippers/Thunder game), but VH1 and USA remained strong players. LOVE AND HIP-HOP had a huge 1.9 rating at 8PM and 1.0 at 9:30PM, while T.I. & TINY was at 1.4 (up 0.4) and THIS IS HOT 97 at 0.6 (up 0.1). WWE was at 1.3-1.5 over its 3 hours, down 0.3 from last week. THE BOONDOCKS (Adult Swim) was stable at 1.0. The season finale of BATES MOTEL (A&E) held at 0.9, and its post-show BATES MOTEL: AFTER HOURS held on pretty well at 0.5. SWAMP PEOPLE (History) fell 0.1 to 0.8. NHL PLAYOFF games on NBC Sports Network were at 0.6/0.4.
Viewers welcomed Jack Bauer back.
FOX: Notwithstanding the grid above, later morning updates give 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY a 2.6 rating in 18-49s, comparable to the 2.8 for its 2010 finale. The good news for FOX is that what was a passable number 4 years ago was now enough to make FOX #2 for the night. Another good sign: the show’s rating stayed very stable throughout the 2 hours, with few viewers bailing out.
NBC: Despite the much bigger competition on FOX, THE VOICE remained steady at 3.0, and THE BLACKLIST, with the first half of its season finale, held at 2.7.
CBS: The season finale of 2 BROKE GIRLS was hit badly by the return of 24, down 0.4 to a series low 1.9. The rest of the CBS line-up didn’t fare any better, with FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES down 0.3 to a series low 1.6, and MIKE & MOLLY down 0.4 to 1.8. Reruns followed at 1.2/0.8.
ABC: DANCING WITH THE STARS was clobbered by Jack Bauer, down an ugly 0.8 to 1.8. CASTLE dropped 0.4 to 1.6, tying its series low.
CW: STAR-CROSSED and THE TOMORROW PEOPLE (the latter with its season finale) held at 0.3/0.4.
Tonight’s season finales are NEW GIRL and THE MINDY PROJECT on FOX, as all the networks have all-new line-ups.
