NETWORK UPDATE: The season finale of SURVIVOR edged up 0.1 in final numbers, moving it into a tie with AMERICAN IDOL. (The SURVIVOR post-finale special lost 0.1.) The season finales of THE MIDDLE and MODERN FAMILY both gained 0.1.
WEDNESDAY CABLE: TNT’s coverage of the NBA PLAYOFFS was on top at 2.2, with the NHL PLAYOFFS on NBC Sports Network at 0.5. CATFISH (MTV) was the highest rated regular series at 1.0, up 0.1 from last week. TBS’s DEAL WITH IT, MTV’s TRUE LIFE and History’s DOWN EAST DICKERING were at 0.6 (up 0.1 for the latter). The season finale of THE AMERICANS climbed 0.1 for the 2d consecutive week, ending with 0.5.
The 2013-14 broadcast television season came to an end.
FOX: Currently, the season finale of AMERICAN IDOL barely squeezed past the Survivor finale for bragging rights, 2.6 to 2.5–but that may change. (See below.) In any case, that 2.6, while up half a point from last week, was down a full point from last season’s finale (which aired on a Thursday), so there was little cause to celebrate.
CBS: The SURVIVOR season finale ran well past 10PM, which means its current 2.5 rating will likely rise in final numbers. At the moment, it’s steady with last week and down 0.1 from last year’s finale (which aired on a Sunday). The SURVIVOR REUNION SPECIAL is currently at 2.0, down 0.2 from last season.
ABC: Despite the big reality show finales airing against it, MODERN FAMILY had no trouble topping the night with 3.6, up 0.4 from last week, although slightly down from last year’s 3.7 finale. The 1-hour season finale for THE MIDDLE was at 2.0, up 0.1 from last week and steady with last season’s finale. The series finale of MIXOLOGY, however, was far less popular at 1.3, steady with last week–and the show began at 9:31PM, so that number may go down this afternoon. The season premiere of MOTIVE could only manage 0.9, down 0.4 from last season’s premiere.
NBC: A night of finales began weakly with 1.1 for REVOLUTION, down 0.1 to a new (and final) series low 1.1. The SVU Season 15 finale was even with last week’s 1.6, and down 0.1 from last season’s finale. The season finale of CHICAGO PD was also at 1.6, up 0.1 from last week and also down 0.1 from last season’s finale.
CW: A fresh episode of THE 100 was at 0.5, down 0.1 from last week, when it had the season finale of Arrow as its lead-in. This week it had one of its own reruns at 8PM, which was at a scrawny 0.2.
The networks are already grinding into summer mode tonight. NBC premieres this season’s edition of LAST COMIC STANDING, FOX debuts the burn-off drama GANG-RELATED, and CW has a 2-night fantasy miniseries called LABYRINTH (no relation to the David Bowie/Jennifer Connelly movie).
