Last night, NBC averaged a preliminary 11.4 rating with Adults 18-49 in prime time.  This edges the Beijing rating for the same night, which itself towered over the other recent summer Games.  Last night the NBC rating peaked at a 13.5 in the 9:30 half hour and held steady at a 13.3 in the 10 pm hour as swimming gave way to coverage of the Women’s Gymnastics all-around qualifying.

The average through three days in London is a spectacular 10.9 rating, comfortably ahead of Beijing over the same period and well ahead of Athens and Sydney.  (A note on the calculation of the multi-day averages: the cumulative average is weighted by the number of minutes commercially rated each night and not a simple average of the individual nightly ratings.)

The best nightly rating on a competing broadcast network was a 1.2 for FOX for animated comedy repeats.  CBS averaged a 0.9 rating Sunday night, with its best rating on the night a 1.8 from Big Brother before 9 pm crashed to a 0.5 rating with the time period premiere of the disastrous dating show 3.  ABC averaged a 0.6 for repeats of its normal schedule.  Cable ratings for the key Sunday night dramas will be posted as they become available.
