A night of midseason finales didn’t thrill anyone.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: After 0.9 for AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS (up 0.2 from last week), the network aired a BEHIND THE MAGIC: SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS special that didn’t capture the ONCE UPON A TIME audience with a 0.7 rating. It was the same score, and a 0.2 drop, for the BLOOD & OIL presumed series finale. (Due credit to the producers for trying to turn the episode into some kind of “finale,” but the result was often laughably rushed.) The midseason finale of QUANTICO ticked up to 1.3 despite the lower lead-in.
CBS: 60 MINUTES is currently up half a point to 1.6, although we’ll see if any of that stems from a late regional NFL game. On a night of back-to-back midseason finales, MADAM SECRETARY is steady at 1.3, THE GOOD WIFE is up 0.2 to 1.1, and CSI: CYBER is at 0.8, although the asterisk here is that they were all preempted last week and aired an hour after their usual timeslots 2 weeks ago due to the night’s NFL overrun.
FOX: The network had the late national NFL game for the 2d week in a row. THE SIMPSONS was up 0.1 to 2.4, both BROOKLYN NINE NINE and FAMILY GUY were steady at 1.7, and LAST MAN ON EARTH was down 0.1 to 1.3. Note that for BROOKLYN and LAST MAN, these were their last scheduled Sunday airings, as BROOKLYN moveS to Tuesdays beginning in January, while LAST MAN’s next destination is unknown.
NBC: SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL is currently at 6.2, up 0.2 from last week’s early number.
There are midseason finales tonight on CBS and CW, and NBC follows the first part of THE VOICE’s cycle finale with an ADELE LIVE IN NYC special, but really the action is on cable. Syfy is seizing the quiet week for its most aggressive scheduling move in, well, maybe ever, as it launches 9 hours of premium original programming in 3 days, beginning with the premieres of the miniseries CHILDHOOD’S END and the series THE EXPANSE. In addition, FX has the Season 2 finale of FARGO.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.

Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).
