Even more than usual, it was football’s night.
NBC: Peyton Manning’s return to Indianapolis was relentlessly hyped all week, especially when the Colts owner appeared to criticize him publicly. The result was a massive number for NFL SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, which we anticipate will be adjusted to 11.0 in final ratings tomorrow, up 2.6 from last week’s game.
CBS: As usual, the afternoon NFL overrun boosted 60 MINUTES in a big way, giving it a preliminary 3.2 (the rating fell 1.3 during the course of the hour). After that, THE AMAZING RACE was even at 1.9. THE GOOD WIFE, which is having a smashing season creatively, was up 0.2 to 1.4. THE MENTALIST fell 0.1 to a new series low 1.2.
ABC: Another ugly Sunday. ONCE UPON A TIME tied its all-time low 2.0, down 0.4 from last week (and down a horrific 1.3 from the same week last season). REVENGE dropped 0.1 to 1.5 (also down 1.3 from last year). BETRAYAL was technically up 0.1 to 0.9, but the show started at 10:01PM, so that may not hold up.
FOX: With no Game 7 of the American League playoffs, the night was all animated reruns, highlighted by 1.3 for THE SIMPSONS.
The networks are all-new tonight except that FOX is rerunning the SLEEPY HOLLOW pilot at 9PM after the BONES wedding episode.

Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).
