THE SKED: The Day in Comings and Goings

The Friday before a holiday weekend is a time-honored day to release bad news, but one of today’s events was a good one:  the announcement that HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER will return for a 9th and presumably final season, at the end of which we will finally really and truly know who the mother is.  (Of course, there are some who might say that the show has already been spinning its wheels for the past season or so, and this just delays things more, but certainly it’s good news for CBS, which still needs the shows on Monday nights, especially since 2 Broke Girls hasn’t become the blockbuster hit the network hoped it would be.

A mix of good and bad news from AMC, where THE WALKING DEAD was (duh) renewed for season 4, but startlingly without showrunner Glen Mazzara, who is largely given the credit for the show’s turnaround in quality in Season 3.  No one is talking about why Mazzara is leaving, other than the usual blather about the decision being “amicable,” but considering that this is a major change in the biggest scripted hit on television, it’s one undertaken with great risk.  There has been no announcement as to who may replace Mazzara.

TNT rounded out the day with the cancellation of LEVERAGE after 5 seasons.  The show scored only moderately in the ratings, so this isn’t a huge shock, and with the bulk of TNT’s schedule returning next year, it leaves an opening for a newly-developed show on the network’s line-up.
