The Round of 16 put the NCAA TOURNAMENT into gear.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
CBS: Although at 2.0, last night’s early Notre Dame vs Wichita NCAA TOURNAMENT game was below the preliminary 2.5 for last year’s parallel game (Indiana vs. Stanford), there was wide interest in watching the Kentucky juggernaut roll on, as its demolition of West Virginia scored a 2.8, ahead of the preliminary 2.5 for last year’s UCLA vs Florida game. Of course, all of last night’s numbers will likely be adjusted this afternoon for time zone reasons.
FOX: BONES returned at 1.3, which was up 0.1 from its last airing, but down half a point from last week’s AMERICAN IDOL rating. BACKSTROM was down 0.1 to 0.9.
NBC: The Thursday strategy gets worse and worse, as THE BLACKLIST fell 0.2 for a new series low 1.6. The preceding DATELINE dropped 0.2 to 1.0, and THE SLAP stayed at 0.7.
ABC: GREY’S ANATOMY gained 0.1 to 2.2, SCANDAL lost 0.1 to 2.3, and AMERICAN CRIME was steady at 1.2.
CW: Reruns at 0.3/0.2.
Basketball continues tonight on CBS, and CW airs what may well be the series finale of HART OF DIXIE (although officially it’s just the season-ender). FOX is taking the night off with a run of the theatrical GROWN UPS.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
