GREY’S ANATOMY fans got the message.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: The network made it clear that Something Big was going to happen on last night’s GREY’S ANATOMY, and the result was a 0.7 jump that gave the show its biggest rating since the season premiere. ABC has announced a 2-hour GREY’S double-feature next week, and we’ll see how many of the viewers come back. Meanwhile, SCANDAL was in an unaccustomed sidekick role, down 0.1 to 2.3, and there was no momentum at all for AMERICAN CRIME, down 0.2 to its series low 0.9.
NBC: After a 0.5 SVU rerun, THE BLACKLIST sank 0.2 to a new series low 1.4. NBC’s Monday/Thursday switch at midseason has to go in the books as one of the worst scheduling moves in recent network history, damaging both nights and crushing what had been the network’s biggest scripted hit. It was followed by DATELINE, down 0.2 to 0.9.
CBS: THE BIG BANG THEORY, facing unusually strong competition from ABC, fell 0.4 to 3.5, and THE ODD COUPLE lost 0.1 to 2.0. MOM was down 0.3 to 1.9, and the weekly BIG BANG rerun was down 0.2 from last week’s at 1.7. ELEMENTARY rounded out the night down 0.1 to 1.3.
FOX: BONES and BACKSTROM were both steady if low at 1.0/0.8.
CW: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and REIGN were also steady and low at 0.6/0.3.
Tonight’s big TV event, for better or worse, is ABC’s BRUCE JENNER – THE INTERVIEW. FOX is continuing to take Fridays off with a run of the 2d NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM movie.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
