THURSDAY BROADCAST: Because this morning’s numbers were so screwed up, we’ll just start fresh with the broadcast networks.
CBS: BIG BROTHER, after all the adjustments, was up 0.1 to 2.3. Even after the football effect was removed, the night’s rerun of THE BIG BANG THEORY was up half a point to a big 2.1.
NBC: WELCOME TO SWEDEN was down 0.2 to 0.5 (the network’s coverage of the President’s speech took up the 9:30PM half-hour). LAST COMIC STANDING was down 0.1 to 1.0.
ABC: THE QUEST fell 0.1 from last week’s premiere to 0.6. ROOKIE BLUE and NY MED are officially down 0.2 and 0.1 to 0.8/0.9, but since they flip-flopped timeslots in part of the country at the last minute, those numbers get a large asterisk.
FOX: GANG RELATED was down 0.1 to 0.6.
CW: Reruns at 0.3/0.2.
THURSDAY CABLE: Aaron McGrunder’s new live-action comedy BLACK JESUS had a strong start at 0.91, and as one would imagine, it was particularly solid with 18-34s (1.23). PAWN STARS (History) followed at 0.81/0.78, down respectively one and two tenths from last week, which was also the case for PAWNOGRAPHY at 0.47/0.45. The preseason NFL FOOTBALL games on NFL Network were at 0.71/0.68. On USA, RUSH and SATISFACTION were more or less steady at 0.49/0.40. On Syfy, DEFIANCE and the season finale of DOMINION were dead even at twin 0.48s, a few ticks above last week. The FX sitcoms are by no means healthy, but they took serious jumps from last week, with MARRIED up about 70% to 0.39, and YOU’RE THE WORST doubling to 0.36. VH1, on the other hand, took a nosedive, with DATING NAKED down 60% to 0.20 (585K total viewers), CANDIDLY NICOLE similarly down at 0.11 (253K total viewers) and LEEANN & EDDIE down by almost half to 0.11 (251K total viewers). Unusually, we have a rating for Sundance’s RECTIFY (but not THE HONORABLE WOMAN), which was at 0.08 last night, with 173K total viewers. THE HONORABLE WOMAN, despite high quality and generally rave reviews, was barely a speck with an 0.02 rating and just 110K total viewers. IFC’s GARFUNKEL & OATES premiered at 0.06, with 199K total viewers.
COMING NEXT TUESDAY: The most comprehensive, demographically informative cable ratings information available anywhere.
The preliminary ratings for last night are a mess. Not only were there widespread preemptions for exhibition NFL games (local CBS stations in NY and LA, among other cities, aired games), but ABC and NBC interrupted programming for 10-20 minutes at 9:30PM to cover the President’s Iraq speech, and ABC switched the airtimes of Rookie Blue and NY Med in part of the country. The numbers below will face significant adjustment later this afternoon.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL
The chart above goes beyond the adult 18-49 rating, adding other key advertiser sales demographics (adult 18-34 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares), and total viewership (ages 2 or more expressed in thousands of people).
