Don’t get too comfortable with this morning’s numbers. Per Mitch Metcalf: “Because of local pre-emptions for NFL preseason games, each network except for FOX should decline in the official nationals. CBS, NBC and CW should drop about one tenth of a rating point (maybe two tenths). But ABC will drop the most (down four or five tenths later today) because three very large markets carried football instead of the regular network schedule. The complete list of market pre-emptions is below the chart.” We anticipate that once the NFL preemptions are removed, the numbers for the night’s regular programming will be relatively close to last Thursday’s.
Pre-emptions for NFL preseason games in Eastern & Central time zone markets (with market ranking and market size):
ABC (7.25% of US): #2 Chicago 3.05%, #4 Philadelphia 2.58%, #11 Detroit 1.62%
NBC (2.25% of US): #18 Cleveland 1.30%, #27 Baltimore 0.95%
CBS (2.04% of US): #9 Atlanta 2.04%
CW (1.00% of US): #20 Charlotte 1.00%
