The Sked: Thursday Week Two

The second Thursday of the season is down a relatively modest 13% collectively for the broadcast networks (10.2 Adult 18-49 rating last night versus 11.7 last fall on this night).

Thursday Night Football (Cardinals at Rams) on the NFL Network had limited impact on the fast nationals.  The game was aired locally in Phoenix on CBS station KPHO 5, but the game aired from 5-8 pm local time in Arizona — so only the early part of CBS prime time is subject to some ratings inflation in the fast nationals.  In St Louis, the game aired on CW station KPLR 11 — and The CW finale of The Next only scored a 0.3 rating nationally with young adults in the fast nationals (a very typical CW number — little inflation there to be sorted out in the official nationals).

CBS wins another Thursday, and this week it is running ahead of the results for the same night last year.

Every other network has fallen behind last year’s pace on the night: ABC down a minimal one tenth from last year (still in third place), FOX a full rating point behind last year (falling 26% from first to second place), and NBC drifting seven tenths of a point lower than last year (down 32% and an even deeper fourth place hole).

Last Resort declined as dramas normally do in week two, still above the Charlie’s Angels level last year but that is not a ringing endorsement.  The drama really needs to be at a 2.0 to be considered for renewal.  Grey’s is above the same week last year (an unusual claim for any returning show this fall), while Scandal is lagging far behind Private Practice‘s pace last fall in the hour.
