The Sked: Thursday Ratings — NBC’s Temptation to Permanently Strip The Voice Continues

CBS won Thursday night, as NBC got into the game on the night (kind of — if you call a 2.1 rating from 8-11 pm competing).  Once again, The Voice solved some more problems on yet another night, improving 90 of the 180 minutes on NBC Thursday.   ABC came back down to Earth after winning the night last week with the CMAs, while FOX remains adrift.

Thursday Night Football (Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars) on the NFL Network had some impact on the fast nationals.  In Indianapolis (market rank #26, 0.95% of the US) NBC station WTHR 13 carried the game and will give a temporary additional lift to NBC’s Thursday lineup in the early ratings.  The NBC average is probably inflated by one-tenth, maybe two-tenths of a rating point.  In Jacksonville (market rank #50, 0.58% of the US), the game aired on independent station WJXT 4 so no network programming was impacted in that market.

Elementary moved back down a bit — it really can’t decide if it is going to move up to a mid-2 rating moderate success story or a low-2 rating mild disappointment.  The rest of the night is doing just fine.

A 3.0 rating is not a great number for an episode of The Voice, but the rating merits a wild celebration in the context of the Baltic Avenue of network television, Thursday 8-9 pm on NBC.  Even better, the influx of viewers in the first hour of prime time pushed The Office up to a season-high 2.5 rating.  But all things must come to and end: Parks & Recreation and Rock Center did not benefit at all from the increased circulation from The Voice.  You can only ask so much of TV viewers.  Note: each NBC rating will probably drop about one tenth of a rating point in the official nationals when NFL viewing in Indianapolis is processed out.
