New lead-ins didn’t help FOX’s sitcoms.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: The good news was that with a respective 1.4 and 1.2, NEW GIRL and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE didn’t collapse from either a long absence or a move to a different night, both rating consistently with their earlier performances. The bad news was that GRANDFATHERED and THE GRINDER were consistent too, at 1.0 and 0.8, which doesn’t bode well for either of them.
CBS: The network took advantage of THE VOICE’s winter hiatus to air an NCIS/NCIS: NEW ORLEANS crossover, with strong results: the 2.6 for the mothership and 2.4 for NEW ORLEANS were season highs, running a half-point or so above recent scores. LIMITLESS didn’t benefit much from the lead-in, up 0.1 to 1.4.
NBC: After 1.2 for HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT, the network aired its own crossover, also flip-flopping CHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO MED from their regular slots. Those results, at 1.8/1.9, were in keeping with recent ratings. (The crossover continues onto CHICAGO FIRE tonight.)
ABC: The night started with 0.8/0.6 for sitcom reruns, and continued with a low 1.2 for a SHARK TANK special, and 1.1 for BEYOND THE TANK, the latter 0.4 below last season’s finale (which aired on a Friday).
CW: Still in reruns at 0.3/0.2.
AMERICAN IDOL begins its final season tonight, and ABC has the season premiere of AMERICAN CRIME. CBS follows the time-slot move of 2 BROKE GIRLS with the season premiere of MIKE & MOLLY and the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS. On cable, it’s the beginning of the end for IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA on FXX, followed by the season premiere of MAN SEEKING WOMAN.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
