NETWORK UPDATE:  The ALL-STAR GAME only adjusted up to 3.2 in final numbers.  Elsewhere, the NIGHT SHIFT season finale lost 0.1, while both EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS and CELEBRITY WIFE SWAP put on 0.1.


TUESDAY CABLE:  THE DEADLIEST CATCH (Discovery) and PRETTY LITTLE LIARS (ABCFamily) were both steady at 1.0 at the top of last night’s cable originals.  LIARS was followed by CHASING LIFE, which ever-so-barely hung on to its 0.5 from last week (0.46, to be precise).  In target demos, the 2 shows were at 2.5/1.0 in Women 18-34 and 3.1/1.8 in teen girls.  On MTV, the 2d episode of FINDING CARTER was at 0.6, the same as its 2d hour last week, and at 1.2 in Women 18-34 and 2.3 in teen girls.  On TNT, RIZZOLI & ISLES and PERCEPTION were at 0.9/0.5, respectively down 0.2 and 0.1.  THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS (OWN) and TYRANT (FX) each slipped 0.1, to 0.9 and 0.5.  On USA, ROYAL PAINS dropped 0.1 to 0.5, and COVERT AFFAIRS remained at 0.3.  On Comedy Central, DRUNK HISTORY stayed at 0.6, and NATHAN FOR YOU rose 0.1 to 0.4.

FOX:  The ALL STAR GAME will go up from the 3.0 adult 18-49 fast national ratings last night to around a 3.4 in the official nationals later today, which would be a touch above last year’s 3.2 rating for the game.

NBC:  The baseball festivities dented AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, down 0.6 from its last new episode 2 weeks ago to 2.0.  The season finale of THE NIGHT SHIFT fell 0.1 to 1.2.  (It began at 10:01PM, though, so that number could change.)

ABC:  EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS fell 0.2 to 0.9, and CELEBRITY WIFE SWAP was steady at 1.0.

CBS:  Reruns, at 0.9 across the board.

CW:  Reruns at 0.1/0.2.

The broadcast networks air their usual summer Tuesdays tonight.  On cable, WE makes its first venture into original scripted programming with THE DIVIDE.

The chart above looks at nightly numbers beyond the fundamental adult 18-49 rating. For each program, we have listed the three key demographic ratings for advertisers (from youngest to oldest): adults 18-34, adults 18-49, and adults 25-54. While the vast majority of commercial time is sold on the basis of 18-49 delivery, 18-34 and 25-54 are important for particular categories such as fast food and pharmaceuticals, respectively.

Continuing across the page, the demographic share section provides a snapshot of each program’s skew across major segments (women 18-49 vs men 18-49 vs adults 50+). A perfectly balanced audience (equally male and female, equally younger and older) has the same share level in each group, while a difference of 2 or more share points is usually significant. The final column lists the broadcast measure of viewership: the number of total viewers for each program (ages 2 or more), expressed in thousands of people.

In each column, the color coding indicates above and below average values for that group (green is above average and red is below average), looking at the major broadcasters (ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX). The CW is excluded from the color coding because its programs are almost always at the bottom of every demographic among the broadcast network, consistently distorting the distribution of the color shading.
