Baseball’s ALL-STAR GAME was a little dimmer this year.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: The ALL-STAR GAME averaged 2.8 from 8-11 pm, probably headed for 3.0 after timezone adjustment in the official nationals this afternoon. Last year, the ASG scored a 3.0 adult 18-49 rating in the fast nationals and ended up with a 3.2 rating in the official nationals. It’s notable that with the game’s decline and the rise of the previous night’s HOME RUN DERBY on ESPN, the two events are only 0.3 apart as of now, although that will widen this afternoon. Last year, the preliminary ALL-STAR GAME number was almost 0.9 above the HOME RUN DERBY.
NBC: AMERICA’S GOT TALENT edged up 0.1 to 2.4, and HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT stayed at 1.5.
CBS: ZOO fell 0.2 to 1.0, a bigger drop than the 0.1 declines (to 0.8) for the reruns that surrounded it.
ABC: EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS gained 0.2 to 0.8, putting it above the night’s preceding reruns.
CW: Reruns at 0.4/0.3.
The sports theme continues with tonight’s airing of THE ESPY AWARDS, which moves from ESPN (where it rated 1.1 last year) to broadcast sibling ABC. On cable, TV Land premieres THE JIM GAFFIGAN SHOW and IMPASTOR, but it gets complicated: not only will both shows simulcast on Nick At Nite, but both have already had on-air exposure. The IMPASTOR pilot has aired as a “sneak” over the past several weeks, and GAFFIGAN has also been on TV Land’s air, although it appears as though the pilot that will air tonight is not the episode the network had pre-released. How all of that will result in a coherent rating tonight is anyone’s guess.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
