Tuesday prime time averages from the third week of the season show a 17% decline in live+same day DVR viewing for the four broadcast networks (from an 11.3 combined Adult 18-49 rating for the four networks on the same night last year to a preliminary 9.4 last night).  This is a bit better than the 24% decline last week but still pretty steep.

Note:  The third Tuesday last season fell on October 4 (our comparison point in the charts below), as the season started relatively earlier in 2011.

FOX 2.7 2.5 2.0 2.0 3.6
ABC 2.2 2.0 1.7 1.7 2.2

NBC moved back into first place on Tuesday, thanks to an original Voice episode (rather than last week’s “best of” clip show).  This lifted the comedies back to the ratings level of two weeks ago.  Go On seems to be a reasonable early pickup for the full season order, but The New Normal is more questionable unless it can move into the low- to mid-2 rating area.  Parenthood had a reasonably good night, as well, moving out of the high-1 rating range for the first time this season.

CBS eased back to second place on the evening, with NCIS taking the biggest hit from last week, down a significant four tenths of a rating point from last week.  Perhaps some CBS 8 pm viewers checked out The Voice, which was back with an original episode.  Vegas is holding at a 2.0 rating, definitely a disappointment (underperforming Unforgettable the same week last year and well below our forecast).

FOX’s Tuesday muddles along at very similar levels to previous weeks.  The comedies have all been picked up for the full season so FOX must like what they see in future scripts and unaired episodes because the ratings for the 8:30 and 9:30 new comedies would suggest at least delaying the full season order.
