So far, Wednesdays are working out just about the way ABC had hoped.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment) Wednesday, the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart below.
ABC: Remembering that ABC’s numbers have been rising in afternoon adjustments far beyond the usual level, as of now THE MIDDLE is steady at 2.0. THE GOLDBERGS dipped 0.1 from last week, but its 2.2 is still very compatible with its lead-in. Even though BLACK-ISH isn’t the breakout hit the network had hoped, it’s holding on to 80% of its MODERN FAMILY lead-in, and that’s more than enough to be considered a success. MODERN FAMILY is currently down 0.3 from last week to 3.4, while BLACK-ISH grew 0.2 to 2.8. NASHVILLE lost 0.1 to hit 1.5, yet the weakness of the other networks put the show just 0.2 out of first place for the hour.
CBS: The second episode of STALKER dropped a reasonable 0.3 from last week’s premiere, but its 1.7 barely gave it the 10PM lead. Earlier, SURVIVOR gained 0.1 to 2.5, but CRIMINAL MINDS fell 0.4 to 2.3.
NBC: THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA dropped 0.2 to 1.3, then SVU slipped 0.1 to 1.7, and CHICAGO PD was steady at 1.5.
FOX: HELL’S KITCHEN held last week’s 1.4, but RED BAND SOCIETY is definitely on the critical list, down 0.2 to a new low 0.9.
CW: The Season 3 premiere of ARROW was at 1.0, up 0.1 from last fall’s premiere. A rerun of the pilot for THE FLASH did better than some CW shows in their first run at 0.6.
The network Thursday night schedules are set, at least until THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL finishes its run, so tonight will be about measuring how last week’s newcomers A TO Z, BAD JUDGE and GRACEPOINT hold up from their unimpressive debuts.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings for Wednesday, the same night last year and same night last week.
