AMERICAN IDOL underscored why next season will be its last.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: The season finale of AMERICAN IDOL, while up 0.1 from last week to 1.6, was down a full point from the 2014 finale.
ABC: The season finales of THE MIDDLE and THE GOLDBERGS held at last week’s 1.7 and 2.0. THE MIDDLE was down 0.3 from last season’s finale, and THE GOLDBERGS was up 0.6 (last season the show aired on Tuesdays). MODERN FAMILY was down 0.2 from last week to 2.7, and BLACK-ISH slipped 0.1 to 2.1. The season finale of NASHVILLE stayed at 1.3, which was also steady with last season’s finale.
CW: The season finale of ARROW rose 0.1 from last week to 1.0, and was also up 0.1 from last season’s finale. SUPERNATURAL gained 0.2 from last week to 0.8.
CBS: SURVIVOR rose 0.1 to 2.2. The back-to-back season finale episodes of CSI: CYBER were both at 1.2, steady with last week’s series low.
NBC: THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA ticked up 0.1 to 1.0. SVU had a healthier 0.3 increase to 1.5, and the season finale of CHICAGO PD rose 0.2 to 1.6, same as last year’s season finale.
Tonight brings a virtual night of finales: GREY’S ANATOMY, SCANDAL and AMERICAN CRIME on ABC, THE BLACKLIST on NBC, THE ODD COUPLE and ELEMENTARY on CBS, and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and REIGN on CW. Also: a premiere, as WAYWARD PINES finally makes its way off FOX’s shelves to the air, a full year after it was announced (enough time so that Terrence Howard and Juliette Lewis were able to do other series during the interim). In addition, IFC has the season premiere of MARON.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
