Say goodbye to the 2014-15 broadcast network TV season. And also, of course, to LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, which outrated everything in primetime last night with a 2.8 18-49 score (making mincemeat of THE TONIGHT SHOW’s 0.8; Jimmy Kimmel, out of respect, aired a rerun), and a 9.3 in households, the show’s highest rating since Oprah Winfrey made her first visit almost 10 years ago.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
CBS: The season finale of SURVIVOR was at 2.2, down 0.1 from last week and down 0.4 from the May 2014 finale. The lead-out SURVIVOR REUNION SPECIAL was at 1.8.
ABC: 500 QUESTIONS debuted with 1.2, which didn’t help the season finales of MODERN FAMILY and BLACK-ISH. FAMILY’s 2.2 dropped half a point from last week, and was down a horrific 1.5 from last year’s season finale–a series low. BLACK-ISH also hit a series low, down 0.4 to 1.6. The season premiere of CELEBRITY WIFE SWAP was at 1.0.
NBC: On a night of season finales, THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA gained 0.1 to 1.1, and both SVU and CHICAGO PD lost 0.2 from last week to 1.4 (also both down 0.2 from the 2014 finales).
FOX: The season premiere of MASTERCHEF was at 1.2.
CW: After an 0.3 rerun, the season finale of SUPERNATURAL held last week’s 0.7, but fell 0.4 from last season’s finale.
…And just like that, we’re in the summer season. While CBS and CW are in reruns, ABC continues with 500 QUESTIONS, NBC airs its 3-hour fund-raising variety special RED NOSE DAY, and FOX will hope WAYWARD PINES can show some signs of life against weaker competition than its premiere faced last week.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
