EMPIRE is still huge.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: EMPIRE returned with a mammoth 6.5 rating, down 0.4 from last season’s finale, but higher than the rest of last season. ROSEWOOD started solidly at 2.4, and clearly benefited from its lead-out, rising from 2.1 at 8PM to 2.7 in the following half-hour.
ABC: THE MIDDLE and THE GOLDBERGS had steady season premieres at 2.1 and 2.4 respectively, the same as in 2014. MODERN FAMILY continues to erode–and obviously the EMPIRE competition didn’t help–down 0.7 from last year’s premiere to 3.1. BLACK-ISH was similarly down a huge 0.9 from last year’s premiere to 2.4. NASHVILLE slipped 0.1 from last season’s premiere to 1.3.
NBC: THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA fell 0.8 from the 2014 premiere to 1.2, but that was in keeping with the numbers it was getting last spring, so NBC is getting what it should have expected from the renewal. SVU had a 2-hour premiere, and its 1.7 was down half a point from last year’s 1-hour season premiere.
CBS: The season premiere of SURVIVOR found the series still remarkably steady after all these years, down 0.3 from last September to 2.4. The season finale of BIG BROTHER was at 2.2, down 0.4 from the September 2014 finale.
CW: AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and A WICKED OFFER were each down 0.1 from last week, respectively to 0.4 and 0.2.
Tonight’s premieres are on NBC, with the reboot HEROES REBORN followed by THE PLAYER. ABC features a full night of ShondaLand season premieres. FOX is sitting the night out, re-airing the 2-hour premiere of SCREAM QUEENS.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
