NBC upended last night with a Voice episode displaced by the Election Night coverage, powering NBC to a winning 3.2 adult 18-49 rating from 8-11 pm and pushing Chicago Fire to a season high.  ABC appears to be back on track after last Wednesday’s Halloween-depressed ratings, while FOX was unable to shake off the Halloween blues (The Voice once again knocking down The X Factor in an atypical head-to-head showdown).

Another live X Factor episode and another sub-3 rating for the show.  Last week, Halloween was the excuse.  Before that it was baseball playoff schedule disruptions.  This week The Voice had the temerity to oppose it.  In any case, the show is really struggling.

The entire ABC Wednesday lineup bounced back from last week’s lows.  In fact, the satellite comedies (The Neighbors at 8:30 and Suburgatory at 9:30 hit season highs, although keep in mind Neighbors is still only a 2.1 rating).  Nashville has stopped the bleeding, but is stuck at the 2.0 rating level.

Exchange two horrible comedies and a struggling veteran crime show with a long episode of The Voice on a special night and ratings more than double.  From around a 1.5 from 8-10 pm most Wednesdays to a 3.7 last night (possibly going up to a 3.8).  Even better, the bigger audience earlier in the evening gave Chicago Fire a shot in the arm, boosting it to a 2.3 rating — a season high and a tie for first place in the hour.  Even in the age of DVRs, lead-ins still matter.
