A bad night at the Eye.
CBS: It’s lucky for CBS that one of its May Sweeps Sundays will be filled by the
Survivor season finale, because the regular line-up is falling apart. For no clear reason, the season’s penultimate
AMAZING RACE took a 0.4 hit from last week, tying its season low 2.2. That didn’t help the season finale of
THE GOOD WIFE (see our review
here), nor did the return of
Desperate Housewives on ABC–
Wife must be glad it’s got its renewal in hand as it fell to 1.7, also tying a season low. To end the night,
NYC 22 collapsed completely, with a new-low 1.2.
ABC: DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES returned for the first of its final 3 episodes, with a 2.5 that was essentially even (down a
meaningless 0.1) with the numbers it was doing before its hiatus.
ONCE UPON A TIME, with a strong episode that finally explained who the town’s mysterious stranger really was, was also slightly down but in the range of recent episodes. The
Housewives return and the failure of
NYC 22 helped
GCB, up 0.4 to a still not-great 1.9.
FOX: THE SIMPSONS, BOB’S BURGERS and FAMILY GUY were all steady or up from recent episodes, but THE CLEVELAND SHOW dipped at 9:30PM, losing almost a full ratings point from its Family Guy lead-in. (In contrast, Bob’s Burgers only fell 0.4 from The Simpsons).
NBC: From 7-9PM, DATELINE and HARRY’S LAW were both under a 1, then CELEBRITY APPRENTICE was barely above its season low with a 1.9.
Everything is new tonight for the first Monday of Sweeps, and SMASHWatch is concerned about HAWAII 5-0, which is starting a much-hyped crossover event with NCIS LA that may cause some pain.

The Sked: SUNDAY Ratings
Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).

A fond farewell to Wisteria Lane. ABC: The bang-up season finale of ONCE UPON A TIME scored a 3.2, its best number in 2 months, sending the series to summer hiatus on a high. DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES shuffled off its mortal coil with the same 3.2, not exactly an event number…
