Another night with little for the networks to cheer about.
ABC: The first 90 minutes of the night provided some good news, as THE MIDDLE rebounded a bit from last week’s low to 2.2 (up 0.3), THE NEIGHBORS was up 0.2 to 1.9 and MODERN FAMILY rose a tick to 3.9. But the tick went the wrong way for SUBURGATORY, which slipped to 2.0, and then at 10PM, a Katie Couric-hosted 20/20 MAD ABOUT OSDCAR special had only a 1.3, making Nashville look positively robust in comparison.
CBS: SURVIVOR was just slightly up to 2.5 (from last week’s all-time premiere low), and CRIMINAL MINDS tied its series low 2.7. However, with subpar competition from ABC in the slot, CSI rose 0.4 to 2.3.
NBC: The 8PM hour continues to be a disaster, as WHITNEY and UP ALL NIGHT both had 1.1s (tying Whitney‘s series low and up barely from Guys’). SVU was up 0.2 to 1.7, and CHICAGO FIRE, despite the weak competition, was merely even at 1.9.
FOX: AMERICAN IDOL is now regularly getting the numbers it had as a summer series in 2002, down 0.2 to 4.1. That was enough to win the night without breaking a sweat, but it’s still worrisome.
CW: Both ARROW and SUPERNATURAL had 0.9s, down (0.2 and 0.1, respectively) from last week.
Tonight could be judgment day for ZERO HOUR, which had a lousy premiere last week. Also of note: in lieu of The Office, NBC airs back-to-back episodes of PARKS & RECREATION starting at 8:30PM, including a well-promoted wedding episode. On cable, SUITS has its season finale on USA.
