THURSDAY NIGHT BOX OFFICE: A Lot of Silence

All four of this weekend’s wide releases began with Thursday night screenings last night, but only KICK-ASS 2 (Universal) reported the results.  Kick Ass 2 started with a $1.3M Thursday (screenings started at 8PM), below last week’s Elysium ($1.7M) but in the same range as White House Down ($1.35M) and 2 Guns ($1.2M).  Both of those movies opened with weekends in the mid-$20Ms, and that would be terrific news for Kick Ass 2, which cost under $30M to produce and had a limited marketing budget.  The original Kick Ass started with $19.8M in 2010 and ended up with $48.1M in the US (it made considerable extra revenue in homevideo, which is why the sequel exists).

THE BUTLER (Weinstein), JOBS (Open Road) and PARANOIA (Relativity) kept their Thursday night results to themselves, which probably speaks volumes.
